Wedding Planner Launches Social Experiment: Find 3 Brides in 30 Days Using Web 2.0 Strategies, Making History and Stimulating the Economy

How’s that for a marketing hook?

My friend and fellow mastermind member Ciara Daykin of Firefly Occasions has launched a global search for 3 special brides to make internet history, brides that she wants to bring in to her wedding planning business within 30 days. In order to meet her own deadline, Daykin has come up with an innovative marketing strategy: use social networking to find the brides and make them into internet celebrities, while stimulating the economy by promoting the use of Web 2.0 products along the way as well as a multitude of wedding products that may not have been showcased before. Daykin’s hope is that this project will increase business for all those involved in the project.

In order for the project to work, it’s imperative that the idea go viral — and to this end, Daykin created a video she hopes will be passed on and shared. It’s a pretty cool video, check it out — do you think it will appeal to brides? If so, would you pass it on?

The main site for the 30-day search is planetplanswedding.com, where you can learn about Ciara, her idea, and her team. You can also fill out an application to be one of the 3 special brides or download Daykin’s free special report, “10 Individuals Who Influenced the World with One Idea” at the site.

Interesting modern day marketing strategy, yes? Or no? I know that I, for one, will be following this campaign with interest!

Indeed, this is an interesting way to bring synergy to multiple levels of the industry. I posted the video and a blurb to my wedding photography blog, Saffron - http://seshu.net/blog.cfm/postID/136/Wedding-Planner-Launches-Social-Experiment and mentioned your blog.

Wow, Seshu, thanks for your post and fantastic offer! Do you know Ciara? I’ve passed your link on to her as well, so she can see how you’re participating in her search. Thanks for spreading the word.

As a wedding photographer, it’s logical that you’d pick up on this marketing strategy. Do you think this would work in other industries as well? I’m interested to hear how you and others feel this type of campaign could be successful for other markets.

    Anyone?
